Delphi employees build playground for kids in Hungary
On April 20 the biggest playground in Balassagyarmat, Hungary was opened to the public thanks to Delphi Calsonic Hungary Ltd. employees. On the morning of its grand opening, 45 employees started to work on completing the construction, which was built according to the standards and the best practices of Delphi project management.
Delphi Calsonic is a Thermal Joint Venture in Balassagyarmat, Hungary.
By late afternoon, employees and local citizens, along with their kids, joined Delphi-Hungry plant leadership and Lajos Medvácz, mayor of the town of Balassagyarmat, for the grand opening ceremony. The playground, at 1,560 sq. yards, consists of 21 organic items -- all safe, esthetic and compliant with European Union regulations for children equipment.
"The idea, born more than half a year ago, was to associate an internal training activity with a real project implementation that brings direct benefits to our neighboring society," said Illé Szabó, Delphi-Hungary HR plant manager, in his welcome speech. "Balassagyarmat has been home to our Delphi plant for more than 5 years, and this was a great opportunity to show gratitude to the city for its cooperation over the past few years."
"We are looking forward to similar opportunities in the future -- this small town has a coherent society of which Delphi intends to have an integrated role. Our corporation's social responsibility is a must for us all," said Szabó.
Echoing the sentiments shared by Szabó, Medvácz said: "This special day marks a milestone for Balassagyarmat, because the one who builds playgrounds, also builds a future caring about children and generations to come."
Following an expressive show performed by children from a local kindergarten class, Medvácz and Szabó cut the ceremonial tape of the new playground -- the Delphi Playpark. It was then ready to be tested by a large group of kids, who stormed the decorative toys and playground items.
