Steering
Delphi Active Front Steering
Delphi Active Front Steering is an electro-hydraulic steering system that allows for improved vehicle stability control and programming of desired variable steering ratios. The system does this by electronically turning the wheels at a different rate than the driver turns the steering wheel. It is designed for use in luxury passenger cars, sports cars, and sport-utility vehicles.
Benefits
- Less steering effort is required at low speeds so that hand-over-hand parking or hairpin turn maneuvers can be accomplished in as little as two-thirds of a turn of the steering wheel
- Electro-hydraulic configuration eliminates typical base steering performance tradeoffs such as noise, lash, returnability, and on-center feel
- Smooth transition from low- to higher-speed steering ratio allows for tighter, sportier feel while helping provide better control on the highway
- Mechanical link helps provide system safety with default to normal steering ratio if system loses power
- Integration potential with steering, braking, and suspension subsystems
- Optional integration with controlled braking to help deliver steering control and minimize stopping distances on various road surfaces
