Delphi Damper Modules

A damper module connects the body of the vehicle to the wheels. The module supports the weight of the vehicle and provides limits to suspension travel in both compression and extension. Rubber mounts help isolate the vehicle body from road inputs. Bearings are integrated into most front applications to allow for steering.

A twin tube strut is the most typical damper used within the module, but twin tube and monotube shocks are used as well. With any type of damper, the piston moves vertically in response to wheel travel over the road. The damper converts the kinetic energy of this motion into heat, which is released into the environment.
