Delphi Transmission Temperature Sensors

There are two primary types of Delphi Transmission Temperature Sensors that monitor the automatic transmission fluid—the metal stator sensor and the plastic sump sensor. As continuous function devices that change resistance inversely to temperature, these sensors measure the fluid temperature in two transmission environments: in-line near the stator and the sump tank. A signal is provided to the powertrain control module.

 The stator sensor consists of:

  • Brass or stainless steel shell
  • Thermal grease
  • Insulating sleeve
  • Gasket
  • Insert-molded connector containing a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor

 The sump sensor consists of:

  • High-temperature plastic shell
  • Patented pre-mold subassembly that contains a NTC with a crimpless conductive path

Benefits

  • Simple, lightweight, and cost-effective design
  • Design flexibility with customized packaging of:
    • Mounting features
    • Connection system
    • Resistance output
    • Customized to match calibration criteria
  • Capable of system integration
  • 100 percent resistance calibration verification helps ensure accuracy and reliability
  • Crimpless conductive path (sump sensor) enhances reliability and helps assure accuracy
