The Delphi Diesel Electronic Unit Pump (EUP) is a proven fuel injection system for heavy duty engines with cam shafts situated in the cylinder block. The EUPs, one per cylinder, are driven from an additional lobe on the camshaft. They are arranged along the engine and connected to the injectors by equal-length high-pressure pipes.
The Delphi Diesel EUP technology is similar to the Delphi Electronic Unit Injector (EUI). Each injector is fed fuel by a solenoid-controlled spill valve situated in the body of the EUP. The actuator is controlled by an electronic control unit (ECU) that receives continuous signals from various sensors located around the engine and compares the information with optimum values. The ECU then sends appropriate signals to the actuator enabling it to deliver the precise amount of fuel at the exact time required by the engine.

Benefits
Typical Applications
The Delphi Diesel Electronic Unit Pump is designed for heavy duty diesel applications and is suitable for both overhead and cam-in-block engines. Delphi recognizes that overhead camshaft engines offer efficiency, but cam-in-block engines also offer other benefits including suitability for low profile engines. Thus, Delphi designed the Diesel EUP to meet manufacturer needs for both types of engines.
Performance Advantages
The Delphi Diesel Electronic Unit Pump has a 2,000 bar peak injection pressure to help manufacturers of low-profile engines to meet the latest emissions regulations and to provide a base for development of Euro IV- and Euro V-compliant engines.
The Delphi EUP is more easily retrofitted to existing engines because the bulk of the design is remote from the cylinder head and related drivetrain components.
